Granit Xhaka, an Arsenal midfielder, is “probably worthy of a new contract” given his strong performance this year.

According to journalist Pete O’Rourke, Arsenal midfielder Granit Xhaka is “probably worthy of a new contract” given his strong performance this season, according to GiveMeSport.

The 30-year-old was one of the biggest surprises of 2022–2023 and has excelled in a new role that Mikel Arteta has given him, playing a crucial role in the Gunners’ title defense.

Granit Xhaka news from Arsenal
Arsenal and Xhaka are reportedly in talks over a two-year contract extension. His current contract is set to expire in the summer of 2024, according to Football Insider.

The north London club has the option to keep the Switzerland international for an additional 12 months, but it appears that they want to reward him for his improved performances.

According to rumors, Arteta sees Xhaka as a crucial component and a leader in the Arsenal locker room while the player is content at the Emirates Stadium.

Gabriel Martinelli has already signed new contracts with Arsenal, and Bukayo Saka and the club have verbally agreed to terms for a new contract.

What was said about Xhaka by O’Rourke?
O’Rourke stated: “I think Arsenal are determined to keep him now in an interview with GMS. He is playing in a more advanced position than he is used to, but he has performed admirably for Arsenal.

His contract expires in 2024, and after committing to new deals with other players, signing Martinelli, and being near to Saka, I believe they will be considering the remainder of the team.

“I know Granit Xhaka is not getting any younger, but I think he’s proven this season that he is deserving of his spot in that club and definitely worthy of a new contract,” said Michael Arteta. “Mikel Arteta wants to maintain the nucleus of the group and grow on it.”

How is Xhaka doing on the field?
This season, Xhaka has been used in a more advanced role on the left side of a midfield three. In 32 games, he has repaid Arteta’s confidence by recording four goals and five assists.

The 6-foot-1 superstar has also performed in the 93rd percentile among his positional peers for touches in the attacking penalty area, 92nd for progressive passes received, 90th for progressive passes and shot-creating actions, and 82nd for projected assists during the last year, according to FBref.

Xhaka joined Arsenal in 2016 for a reported £35 million, and it looks like he will be there for the foreseeable future.
