According to the Italian newspaper Corriere dello Sport, Arsenal is preparing to make an official bid for Real Madrid midfielder Brahim Daz this summer.
During his time at Manchester City’s academy, the 22-year-old was regarded as one of Europe’s best young talents. However, after leaving the Citizens for Real Madrid in a £15 million deal, the midfielder’s progress stalled. After failing to make an impression in Madrid, the youngster has been loaned out to AC Milan.
Diaz has been a regular at the San Siro Stadium, but he has yet to show his best in the Italian top flight. Despite this, Mikel Arteta, who worked with the Spaniard as Pep Guardiola’s assistant at the Etihad Stadium, still admires the youngster and hopes to reunite with him at the Emirates Stadium.
According to Sport Witness, who cites and translates the print version of Corriere dello Sport, Diaz is likely to return to the Estadio Santiago Bernabéu at the end of this season after finishing his loan stint with Milan because the Rossoneri are unwilling to activate his current £19m buy option and are looking to negotiate a cheaper deal.
Diaz to Arsenal
However, the report claims that Arsenal are ready to outbid Milan for the 23-year-old, whose current contract with Los Blancos runs until June 2025, and that the Gunners are ready to make a formal offer to sign the player this summer.
It has come as a big surprise that the Gunners are exploring the possibility of signing another attacking midfielder, having already got Martin Odegaard, Fabio Vieira and Emile Smith Rowe.
Furthermore, Diaz has struggled to shine in recent seasons, so the Gunners’ decision to proceed with this deal would be perplexing. However, having previously worked with the midfielder at Manchester City, Arteta may know how to get the most out of the Spain international.
So it will be interesting to see if Arsenal decides to make a formal approach for the Spaniard at the end of the season.
