When the best players in European football become available, it’s only natural for storied clubs like Manchester United and Liverpool to compete for their services.

Although both sides have nothing to worry about offensively, they have looked shaky at times defensively.

Unless Virgil van Dijk is having a good game, Liverpool are struggling. If the Dutchman is below par, as he has been on several occasions during the 2022/23 season, the Reds are almost always doomed. The recent 1-0 loss to Bournemouth is just one example.

Acquiring a decent center-back is as rare as hen’s teeth, so any club with title ambitions would want to be involved if there was a chance to bring in some quality.

That perfectly describes Napoli’s solid defensive lynchpin, Kim Min-Jae, a player who is as responsible for the Italian club’s Serie A title surge as Victor Osimhen.

According to Sky Sports, the table-toppers have only conceded 16 goals in 27 league games this season, which says it all. When compared to Liverpool (29) and Manchester United (35) it is clear why they are interested.

According to Rai, Liverpool is willing to pay £60 million for his services, while transfermarkt values him at a bargain €50 million.

One word of caution: at this point, the player does not appear to be interested.
