Gabriele Biancheri has officially joined Manchester United from Cardiff City on a four-year contract. The 16-year-old Welshman has been in impressive form this season, scoring 17 goals for the Bluebirds’ youth teams. The Red Devils were keen to secure the deal, which will involve Biancheri signing a scholar contract initially, which will become a professional contract when he turns 17 in September. As a result of post-Brexit Premier League rules, United can only sign players under the age of 18 with UK citizenship, so they opted to bring in the striker now. Fabrizio Romano confirmed the details of the move earlier this month, and Biancheri has now confirmed it himself by posting a picture of himself in the club’s shirt to Instagram. His representatives, Unique Sports Group, have also sent a congratulatory message to the “fantastic” player. Biancheri will initially represent United at age group levels, with a potential first team pathway on offer. The U18 team won the FA Youth Cup last season, but were knocked out in the last 32 stage this term. They are currently in third in the U18 Premier League, 12 points behind leaders Manchester City, but with three games in hand. With the addition of Biancheri’s firepower, United’s age group side will hope to gain more silverware this season.
