Paul Scholes and Robin van Persie have both commended Bruno Fernandes for his willingness to play out wide, comparing him to former Manchester United star Wayne Rooney.
The Portuguese midfielder was deployed on the right wing in the Europa League knockout round playoff second-leg tie against Barcelona, but was moved back to a midfield role in the second half.
Van Persie noted that great players are willing to do whatever is necessary for the team, and Scholes added that Fernandes’ selflessness is what is needed in big games.
The former Red Devils duo both agreed that Fernandes’ quality and ability to create goals is evident no matter where he plays on the pitch.
