Scouts sent: Arsenal now eyeing move to sign “machine” striker; he’s been compared to Haaland

It has been reported that scouts from Arsenal watched one of their targets in action over the weekend as they contemplated making a move for a new striker.

Which players did Arsenal sign in January?

The Gunners are eager to bolster their roster in a number of areas this winter, and they have been connected to a move for Sporting CP defender Ousmane Diomande. However, the young player’s representative has stated that his client is content with his current situation.

Having made a sluggish start since joining Paris Saint-Germain for £50 million from Barcelona in the summer, Ousmane Dembele has now been identified as a possible target. Mikel Arteta may also consider adding reinforcements in wide areas.

Borussia Dortmund sensation Jamie Bynoe-Gittens may possibly become available for the north Londoners in January, according to transfer insider Dean Jones. However, Jones does not think the 19-year-old is likely to be among their primary targets.

Regarding striker alternatives, Ivan Toney of Brentford seems to be one of Arsenal’s top targets. Transfer insider Fabrizio Romano recently disclosed that negotiations have already taken place regarding a deal for the 27-year-old.

Though spies were reportedly deployed to observe Santiago Gimenez of Feyenoord play during his team’s intense Sunday match against Ajax—which was ultimately postponed owing to crowd disturbances—the Gunners are also taking a closer look at the player.

The Mexican put on a fantastic show, scoring twice and setting up Feyenoord for an assist before the game was called at the hour mark, leaving scouts impressed.

Gimenez undoubtedly made an impression during his brief time on the pitch, but other scouts, such as those from Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur, were also present, so there will probably be fierce competition for his services this winter.

The 22-year-old decided to commit to Feyenoord for the long run back in August, signing a new contract that would keep him at De Kuip until 2027. However, it looks like he will have plenty of opportunities to depart during the January transfer window.

For Feyenoord, how many goals has Santiago Gimenez scored?

The forward, who was born in Buenos Aires, has scored 29 goals in 51 games for Feyenoord since joining the team from CD Cruz Azul, a Mexican team. There are early indications that he will score even more this season.

With the exception of the two goals he scored against Ajax over the weekend, the Mexico international has already scored six goals in the first five games and has established himself as a vital member of the Dutch team.

The Feyenoord player has been compared to Erling Haaland and called a “machine” by football talent scout Jacek Kulig. He is in the 99th percentile for touches in the opposing penalty area per 90 over the past year, making him a constant threat in attacking positions.

However, given that Gimenez is untested outside of the Eredivisie, taking a gamble on him would be risky, particularly because Arteta also has Toney, who scored 20 goals in the Premier League last season, on his shortlist.
