After agreeing on a final price with Inter for the custodian, Manchester United is anticipated to complete the transfer of Andre Onana very soon, according to Fabrizio Romano.
United acquiring Onana?
Onana’s transfer to Old Trafford appears to be close to completion despite the threat that it would drag on until the end of the transfer window.
In order to have a first-choice custodian in place before the start of the new Premier League season in a little under a month, the Red Devils had to act quickly to sign Onana after David de Gea’s official departure.
The main challenge has been coming to an agreement on a price with Inter, who have been adamant about how much they value the custodian despite Onana’s constant desire to transfer to United.
But according to Romano, the two clubs have now settled on a price of €50 million plus €5 million in add-ons, and they are finalising the format and specifics of those performance-related bonuses.
Romano said on his YouTube channel: “Thursday is going to be a crucial day for the Andre Onana deal, and it is, it was, a crucial day because in the conversations between Manchester United and Inter was made the final verbal proposal from Man United – €50m (£43m) guaranteed fee plus €5m (£4m) in add-ons.
“At this time, Manchester United and Inter are debating the add-ons’ structure. The deal will be completed after learning how to activate these add-ons, whether they are simple or complex.
The deal is really close and is thought to close soon. Let’s see if it will be in the evening or on a Friday. The “here we go” is anticipated soon, but we are still awaiting the story’s concluding details.
This will come as a relief to United supporters who might have been worried that the deal would eventually fall through due to financial difficulties, given that Inter had previously rejected several bids.
With the ball at his feet, which is one of Onana’s greatest strengths, Erik ten Hag will be happy to have acquired a custodian. The custodian will be thrilled to reunite with the Dutch coach after their time as teammates at Ajax.
Onana played a significant role in the Inter squad that won the Coppa Italia and advanced to the Champions League final last year. In 41 appearances across all competitions, the 27-year-old custodian allowed just 36 goals and recorded 19 shutouts.
Who is United bringing in?
The Red Devils must concentrate their efforts on the other areas of the squad that require revitalization because Onana will soon join recent acquisition Mason Mount at Old Trafford.
Ten Hag is still in a desperate search for a new centre forward this summer because Anthony Martial is the only one the team currently owns and Marcus Rashford is more at home on the left.
Numerous rumours about United’s hunt for a striker have been making the rounds, with links to Rasmus Hojlund of Atalanta being the most notable. According to reports, Man United already offered a players-plus-cash deal, but La Dea, who values the player at a startling £85.5 million, swiftly rejected it.
Victor Osimhen, Dusan Vlahovic, and Randal Kolo Muani have all been mentioned in relation to United and would all likely command a similar high fee. United may need to look elsewhere.
