Lisandro Martinez, a defender for Manchester United, came under fire from Peter Schmeichel on Saturday for “trying to be a hero” during their 3-1 loss to Brighton.
As a result of goals from Brighton’s Danny Welbeck, Pascal Gross, and Joao Pedro, Erik ten Hag’s team has already dropped three of its first five Premier League games this season.
As a result of their fans jeering them off at the final whistle, Manchester United is currently ranked 13th in the early Premier League standings.
Schmeichel emphasised that Brighton’s second goal, in which Gross ducked past several defenders to score, was very worrisome for Manchester United.
Martinez was singled out by Schmeichel for making the incorrect choice and “trying to be a hero” when reviewing the second goal that Manchester United gave up.
Schmeichel told Premier League Productions, “It is kind of what happens at Manchester United at the moment, it is very individual.”
Players like Martinez are attempting to enter the game and block in an attempt to save the day. One is aware of this. Looking at him there, he positions himself so that the custodian is exactly in front of him.
“Instead of just standing up and attempting to block, he ought to be closing down.” Stay upright and avoid turning your body if you wish to block. There is no denying that Manchester United is in trouble.
According to Man Utd midfielder Christian Eriksen, the Red Devils had “good control” of the game in the first half and ought to have taken more advantage of their opportunities.
Eriksen stated, “It is a heavy one,” to BBC Sport. We must examine ourselves. Although we made some changes, we are still not satisfied.
We possessed excellent control and a lot of opportunities in the first half. They possessed a great deal, but they had little opportunities. They then score on their first opportunity, and because of their system, we had to chase after the ball a lot. But we still had opportunities to regain control of the match.
The Manchester United midfielder responded, “The little things,” when asked what has to happen to make things better. We scored today, but it was out of play when we got an offside at Arsenal. The little things we overlook and a little bit of good fortune to cross the finish line and reap the rewards of our labour.
Any game at the beginning of the season, regardless of your player, is crucial. Everybody we play against wants to win, so we concentrate on our games. However, we need to make a change because we have already lost three.
