Liverpool has approved many players’ temporary departures from Anfield in the same week that they have called back a number of players after unsuccessful loan stints.

Marcelo Pitaluga, the custodian, has officially signed a loan deal with League of Ireland club St Patrick’s Athletic. This move to Dublin was completed on Friday. The custodian is following in the footsteps of Vitezslav Jaros, his positional colleague and teammate at LFC, who made the similar move in 2021.

Following the transaction’s confirmation, the 21-year-old moved to social media, posting, “Excited to get started!” along with the St. Pat’s club colours and a muscle flex emoji.

Pitaluga is expecting that his loan move to Richmond Park will be as successful as Jaros’ was three years prior, when the Czech goalie made 39 appearances and recorded 13 clean sheets for the Dublin team (Transfermarkt).

The Brazilian’s temporary departure from Liverpool comes at the perfect time because the League of Ireland operates on a calendar year, he joins the Saints in preseason, and their premier league campaign begins in mid-February.

If he stays at St Pat’s through the summer, he’ll also be able to enjoy European competition, as their victory in the FAI Cup in November guaranteed them a spot in the 2024 UEFA Conference League qualifying rounds.

Pitaluga, who turned 21 just before Christmas, will be keen to make up for not having played a first-team match in his career (Transfermarkt) by getting lots of playing time with the Irish squad. Hopefully, his loan transfer will go more smoothly than ones that players like Rhys Williams and Fabio Carvalho have had to deal with this season.
