“Arsenal will try to sign two midfielders this summer,” the journalist said on the Chris Wheatley Show after the game.
“Certainly one of those is Declan Rice. Then there’s a long list of players on the shortlist, which, of course, includes Youri Tielemans and Moises Caicedo.”
Rice has been linked with a move away from West Ham in the summer, but other clubs such as Chelsea are also being mentioned – so it makes sense for the Gunners to have multiple targets.
Caicedo was wanted in the summer, but having just signed a new contract, he will cost even more – and he is also wanted by Liverpool and Manchester United.
Tielemans will undoubtedly be the most affordable option. His contract will expire this summer, and it is expected that he will not renew. As a free agent, Arsenal is likely to be his only suitor.
Overall, it’s encouraging that Arteta has identified multiple targets, but with so much competition for transfers, landing not just one, but two of their preferred options this summer will be a tall order.
