Mikel Arteta provided an upbeat update on Thomas Partey’s fitness ahead of Arsenal’s match against Everton.
The Gunners kept their lead over Leicester City by defeating them 1-0 on Saturday. Indeed, following the weekend’s games, Arsenal remains two points clear at the top of the Premier League, with a game in hand over nearest rivals Manchester City.
Arteta’s men will look to keep their title charge going when they host Everton at the Emirates on Wednesday.
The Toffees have lost seven consecutive away league games, scoring just one goal in that time.
Everton, on the other hand, is one of only three Premier League teams to have defeated Arsenal this season, triumphing 1-0 in early February.
However, Sean Dyche’s chances of repeating the feat may be hampered by the possible return of Arsenal’s midfield enforcer, Partey.
Partey to rejoin Arsenal?
After missing two games due to a thigh injury, Partey made his comeback as a substitute in Arsenal’s win over Leicester on Saturday.
Despite the fact that the Ghanian only played six minutes at the King Power Stadium, Arteta revealed that the player was back in training and could be given more minutes to get back on track.
Arteta commented on Partey’s injury recovery: “He hasn’t done much training. He had a session and will be training today. That’s all there is to it.
“He was out for a few weeks and needs to get back into the swing of things.”
Arsenal have struggled at the Emirates in recent weeks, which has been exacerbated by Partey’s absence.
The Gunners have only won one of their last four home league games, and they have only kept two clean sheets in their last 16 Premier League games at the Emirates.
Arteta rallied the Arsenal faithful ahead of the crucial match in his press conference.
“[The fans] will be crucial,” the Spaniard said.
“We expect to have the same support tomorrow because it will put us one step closer to winning the game.”
