According to Blues journalist Simon Phillips, Chelsea and Julian Nagelsmann will have new discussions about Nagelsmann taking over as manager at the end of the current campaign.
What recent Chelsea manager news is there?
Frank Lampard reportedly wanted to return to Stamford Bridge as the club’s permanent manager, but after losing Chelsea’s first three games, he hasn’t had the best of starts.
As a result, the Blues continue to look for a new manager to take over at the end of the current campaign. According to the Times, candidates include Mauricio Pochettino, Ruben Amorim, and most recently, Vincent Kompany. According to the same report, the Blues held initial talks with Nagelsmann, who was recently fired by Bayern Munich, and were reportedly impressed. As a result, further talks are expected.
The 35-year-old is anticipated to be in London this week for another round of talks, following up on initial discussions that took place in Germany last week, according to seasoned Chelsea journalist Phillips via Give Me Sport.
The German is not the only candidate for the position, though; Luis Enrique is also likely to be asked to return for additional face-to-face interviews, and other candidates are reportedly in the running. Although Phillips claims the final decision won’t be made until the summer, he wouldn’t be shocked if a new manager was hired before the season ended, perhaps even within the next two weeks.
Should Julian Nagelsmann be hired by Chelsea?
The decision to fire the former Bayern manager seemed odd because he did a respectable job at the Allianz Stadium, leading the team to three victories and the quarterfinals of the Champions League this year.
Tottenham Hotspur is also interested in the young manager, so there will probably be competition for his services. If Chelsea does win the race, though, he could be a very exciting hire because of his playing style.
Coach Julian Nagelsmann of RB Leipzig celebrates following the game against Spurs.
The tactician has been praised as a “unreal attacking coach” by journalist Raj Chohan, which suggests he may be able to get more goals out of the team next season after only scoring 30 in 31 Premier League games this year.
Nagelsmann would be a fantastic hire for Chelsea, and it is wonderful that he could take over before the end of the current campaign to give him a chance to evaluate his current team.
