Dean Jones, a journalist, has Although Chelsea may already be considering selling Frank Lampard, doing so could hurt their chances of signing Julian Nagelsmann.
How are things going with Frank Lampard and Chelsea?
The Blues have had a truly dismal stretch of play under interim coach Chris Wilder, as the team has dropped all four games since Graham Potter was fired.
Real Madrid most recently eliminated Chelsea from the Champions League this week, losing 2-0 at Stamford Bridge for an overall loss of 4-0 over the two legs.
Given all of this and the club’s current situation, it appears that Todd Boehly may have had enough of Lampard.
In fact, insider Jones recently revealed that the Englishman may only have two more games to retain his position as interim.
He added: “Yet his first three matches ended in defeat, and after the weekend one source close to the dressing room told GMS that if the next three matches — starting with a trip to Real Madrid — did not go well it would not be a surprise to see Chelsea change manager yet again.”
The German isn’t prepared to start a job so soon, so this might not be good news for those who want Nagelsmann in West London.
The German does not want to take up a new job during the season, preferring to come in for the summer to attack pre-season and fully focus on preparing a squad for a full campaign, as Jones revealed in his article. “This is a factor that actually goes against Nagelsmann becoming the next boss that Chelsea seriously have to weigh up,” Jones wrote.
Todd Boehly wants a specific candidate to lead Chelsea.
It’s interesting to hear this most recent report because Jones has previously stated that Nagelsmann may actually be Boehly’s top choice for the position.
The journalist stated, “I get the feeling that Todd Boehly would still go for Nagelsmann in an ideal world,” according to Chasing Green Arrows (via Football Fancast).
On the other hand, if the 35-year-old wants to take a proper break from football after recently being fired by Bayern Munich, this may prevent him from taking the Chelsea position in the near future.
Julian-Nagelsmann
If so, reports indicate that the 52-year-old Luis Enrique, a Spanish manager, may be Boehly’s best alternative moving forward.
Lampard may lose his position as interim manager if he keeps dropping games, which would be a first. It will be interesting to see if Nagelsmann’s stance changes in the event that that occurs, or if he does indeed reject any approach from the Blues before the season is over.
