Arsenal full-back Kierney will be perplexed after today’s game against Nottingham Forest, according to BBC pundit Pat Nevin.
Arsenal put in another poor performance, falling to defeat and handing the title to Manchester City.
Mikel Arteta decided to experiment with his starting lineup and XI. One of those decisions was to start Jakub Kiwior and Thomas Partey at fullback instead of Kieran Tierney.
And, according to the BBC’s Nevin, it’s a decision that will have left Tierney perplexed.
“This is unusual. “Arsenal does not like to change their system, but they have done so here, with Kiwior at left fullback and Partey at right fullback,” Nevin explained.
“But consider this: the team has been reshuffled, with players in unfamiliar positions, and your only recognised fullback is on the bench.” “I’m curious how Kieran Tierney is feeling right now.”
Tierney is one of the Arsenal players who could leave this summer. The Scot has fallen down the pecking order, and Arteta’s call today only confirmed that.
What is Arteta up to?
Mikel Arteta’s performance was perplexing. Arsenal needed to win to keep their title hopes alive, but instead they whimpered to defeat with an odd team selection.
Tierney is much better down the left side, and while he did come on, the decision not to start him was strange.
Is it possible that cracks are forming? Arteta and the Arsenal players are the only ones who know the answer.
But one thing is certain: Mikel Arteta is in for a bigger challenge than he may have anticipated. He requires new players as well as more winners. And he needs them right away this summer.
