Prior to the January transfer window, Arsenal is still being connected to a new striker.
The Gunners lack a proven 20-goal season striker in their lineup, and they will require extra firepower if they are to contend for a league title this year.
Recently, Ivan Toney has been heavily linked to a move to Arsenal; however, David Ornstein, speaking on The Daily Football Briefing, has shot down such speculations.
Ornstein claims that Toney is on Arsenal’s roster, but he does not anticipate that transfer taking place.
It’s interesting to note that Ornstein did list three other strikers who Arsenal may be interested in, including Evan Ferguson of Brighton.
Arsenal is pursuing Ferguson
Ornstein revealed his knowledge of the Brighton star.
“There will be people at Arsenal who like him (Toney), and he will be on Arsenal’s list along with others like Victor Osimhen, Benjamin Sesko, and Evan Ferguson. These names are on the lists of many other clubs as well. However, based on what I know at the time of recording, I don’t think it’s likely that Arsenal will be signing him,” Ornstein stated.
Not likely in January.
Even if this link seems fantastic, we have to assume that this change is unlikely to occur in January.
Ferguson was once mentioned as a £100 million player, but he just recently inked a new deal with Brighton to remain at the Amex for the long run.
It’s difficult to think Arsenal will have that kind of money to spend this winter after spending over £200 million in the summer, and even if they did, would they really throw it away on a 19-year-old who still has a lot of things to prove at the highest level?
It appears that Arsenal’s pursuit of a striker for the upcoming month will not be simple, to put it mildly.
