Chelsea is reportedly aiming to replace the departing Kepa Arrizabalaga, and the London club has reportedly made contact with Djordje Petrovic to compete with Robert Sanchez.
Petrovic: Who Is He?
The Serbian goalkeeper spent four years with his hometown club FK Cukaricki, where he developed via the youth programme. During that time, he made 78 appearances and recorded 30 shutouts. He signed with the MLS team New England Revolution last year, and he has performed well for them.
Last season, Petrovic played 25 times for them in all competitions, recording eight shutouts and allowing just 29 goals. The 23-year-old is hailed as “absolutely incredible” by a former colleague and appears to possess the skills necessary to succeed in Europe.
What Price Is Chelsea Willing to Pay for Petrovic?
According to the source, they have made an opening bid of about £15 million for the services of the 23-year-old, and they are currently in talks with the MLS team about the prospect of signing him before the end of the summer transfer season.
Kepa Arrizabalaga, a custodian for Chelsea, has been assigned to Real Madrid on a temporary loan through the 2023–24 campaign. After selling both Kepa and Edouard Mendy this summer, Mauricio Pochettino’s team is weak in goalkeeping, which is why they are attempting to sign the Serbian keeper.
Whether they can close the deal in time to challenge Sanchez for the starting job this season remains to be seen. It appears Chelsea is hoping to sign a goalkeeper with more experience in order to bolster their goalkeeping department. Lucas Bergstrom was on the bench for the first game against Liverpool.
