Arsenal are reportedly planning to extend Granit Xhaka’s stay at the Emirates by offering him a new three-year contract. The 30-year-old has been a key figure for the Gunners this season, helping them to the top of the Premier League table. Xhaka has scored four goals and provided five assists in 24 league games, more than double the combined total of his two previous campaigns. Football Insider claims Arsenal are eager to keep hold of Xhaka and avoid losing him on a free transfer. The report also states that Xhaka is happy at Arsenal and is willing to pledge his long-term future to the North London club. Mikel Arteta is said to value Xhaka as a key player and views him as a leader in the dressing room. 90min also reports that Arteta has given his ‘seal of approval’ for the player to be handed a new deal. Earlier this season, Arteta described Xhaka as a “special” person who had learnt from his past mistakes at Arsenal. The Gunners are now hoping to reward Xhaka for his impressive performances this season by offering him a new three-year contract.
