According to reports, Arsenal has made an offer for right-back Sacha Boey of Galatasaray as Mikel Arteta wants to strengthen his team in preparation for the upcoming season.

What’s new with Sacha Boey going to Arsenal?
Arsenal reportedly made a proposal of around €20 million (£17 million) for the defender, according to the Turkish publication Turkiye Gazetesi, but Galatasaray are asking for €25 million (£21.5 million) for one of their top players this summer.

The Turkish team, according to the source, wants to negotiate and close a deal that satisfies their criteria, with Arsenal ‘likely to hasten’ to complete the transfer.

Although Brighton and Hove Albion are also interested in the 22-year-old, Boey will undoubtedly choose to play in the Champions League at the Emirates next season.

Could Takehiro Tomiyasu be replaced by Sacha Boey?
Arteta will be eager to strengthen his team in a number of areas ahead of Arsenal’s first appearance in Europe’s top club tournament since 2016/17, with the right-back position obviously needing to be strengthened.

In contrast to Takehiro Tomiyasu, who had 32 appearances but just 13 of them were starts last season, Ben White was frequently moved from his customary center-back position to fill in on the right. Could Boey replace the Japanese defender going forward?

While his club won their first league championship since 2019 this season, the Frenchman has emphasised how important he is to them. He obviously had a significant part in Galatasaray’s championship victory as he finished sixth overall in the team’s rating (7.11), fourth for large chances created (seven), third for successful dribbles per game (1.1), and second for tackles per game (2.7).

Comparatively, Tomiyasu was ranked 18th in the Arsenal squad for overall rating (6.68), 15th for big chances created (one), 20th for successful dribbles per game (0.0), and sixth for tackles per game (1.3), making it abundantly clear that the 22-year-old would be a much better option on the right side of Arteta’s defence in the upcoming campaign.

Boey was previously referred to as a “intriguing prospect” by journalist Zach Lowy in 2021 before he moved to Turkey, and it’s reasonable to assume that he has actually matured into a well-rounded right-back who can successfully attack and defend, judging on his results in the Galatasaray team this season.

It is clear that Arteta requires significant defense-wide strength in order to mount a second Premier League championship push in 2023–24, thus enticing Boey to the club for the previously indicated sum of £21.5 million might turn out to be a sensible investment in the years to come.
