Liverpool are considering a move for Federico Chiesa, with Juventus willing to sell the Italy international forward this summer.

The Reds were said to be interested in the Italian after his outstanding performances at the European Championships two summers ago. It was even claimed that a bid of £86 million had been submitted.

Jurgen Klopp’s side got their summer business off to a flying start with the signing of World Cup-winning midfielder Alexis MacAllister from Brighton. Despite this, the Merseyside club is planning a busy summer window with multiple first-team recruits following a disappointing season.

Juve’s asking price for Chiesa is expected to be significantly lower than it was in 2021, with Italian media speculating on a figure of around €35m-€45m (£30m-38.5m). This is determined by a number of factors, including the club’s own financial situation.

The Bianconeri will not play in the Champions League next season and will instead compete in the Europa Conference League. This followed their failure in Europe’s top club competition this season, in which they lost five of six group games.

Max Allegri’s side recovered to reach the Europa League semi-finals, but the revenue shortfall hit the club hard, and their Serie A points deduction saw them finish seventh in the Italian top flight, despite having the highest wage bill in the league.

Chiesa suffered an anterior cruciate ligament injury in January 2022, sidelining him for seven months. This has limited him to just six Serie A starts in the last 18 months as he attempts to avoid further injury.

According to Calciomercato, Liverpool and Newcastle are both aware of his situation, with Klopp driving the Reds’ interest. Chiesa is under contract at the Old Lady until 2025, and there is no chance of a contract extension at this time.

“I am here working with the international team and our goal in the Nations League, then we will see,” Chiesa said earlier this month, during Italy’s international break. I’m at Juventus and I’m thinking about staying at Juventus.”

According to a separate report in Gazzetta dello Sport, as cited by Sport Witness, Liverpool is the frontrunner for any move for the former Fiorentina star and could increase their interest next week. Klopp and Liverpool are said to be willing to offer Chiesa a wage guarantee that Juventus is currently unable to provide.

Since joining Juventus in 2020, Chiesa has scored 22 goals in 94 appearances.
