Lampard picks out two Chelsea player who ‘gave every drop’ but others lack ‘pride’

Although Chelsea lost to Brighton 2-1, Frank Lampard praised two players for their performances. He didn’t attempt to “dress up” his team’s performance, however, because “pride” was lacking.

Brighton completely outplayed the Blues at Stamford Bridge, scoring 26 shots to Chelsea’s eight while controlling the majority of the possession.

As a result of the outcome, Lampard has now presided over three straight losses since he was appointed interim manager following Graham Potter’s dismissal.

The club legend appeared depressed in his post-game interview, as one might expect.

It’s challenging because the score doesn’t reflect well on them; they could have scored more goals, according to Lampard. First and foremost, [Brighton] is a very good team; they have been working together for a very long time, and with the coach, the ideas, the energy, and the connection within the team are so good. For this reason, they are where they are, and we are not that.

The first things on the ladder are the fundamentals that we got wrong today, but getting there will take time. And since that is not a Chelsea performance, that can’t be right for us; we need to address it right away.

“Some of our changes had to be made because we had to space out the minutes. People who are eager to make an impression should be on our squad. We were not, therefore, treating it lightly. There is no way that I would do that since this is my first home game after returning. However, the outcome is what it is.

“Working is the only way to get out of this situation. The work aspect of the game is essential because you face a team like Brighton who excels in possession. But I didn’t think the level today was adequate.

However, Lampard chose two of his players who can be proud of their performances at Stamford Bridge.

They were capable of scoring more. Kepa [Arrizabalaga] did a great job. Conor Gallagher was another who distributed each drop by itself. But we must all agree to accept it as a group. In order to play for this club and attempt to win games, we must accept the necessary actions.

I’ve been at the club for nine days, and today’s sight didn’t impress me. I won’t make any effort to sugarcoat that in any way. We must be completely honest in this regard. When you represent Chelsea, you ought to feel a sense of pride. Tuesday requires more work from us.

“A new energy is required to get there. That must be repeated.

“Right now, our situation is not ideal. In football, the story can be quickly changed. To accomplish that, we’ll need a strong desire, and the game will be different.

“It’s not about the club I played for; it’s a different time, and other managers have been here and had success since I was manager. The football club Chelsea is larger than all of us. While we are not where we want to be, we must work as though we will be there tomorrow.
