A recent rumour claims that Manchester United is considering a deal for a center-back who looks to be at the peak of his game.

Man Utd center-back targets and transfer rumours
Erik ten Hag has fielded makeshift backlines on several occasions in recent weeks due to the Red Devils’ numerous back ailments this season. The season has seen periods of absence for outstanding centre backs Raphael Varane and Lisandro Martinez; the former is back in the starting lineup this week against FC Copenhagen.

Martinez’s injury appears to keep him out until the New Year, which has led to an increase in Man Utd transfer speculations in recent weeks regarding a new defender. Goncalo Inacio of Sporting CP and Jean-Clair Todibo of Nice are two players who have been strongly linked to a 2024 move to Old Trafford; however, the Red Devils seem to be interested in a new defender, and therefore in a new investor, Sir Jim Ratcliffe, who may soon have power over sports-related matters in Manchester.

In the past 48 hours, TEAMtalk has given an update on the signing of Robin Le Normand, stating that Real Sociedad’s defender has pleased both Man United and rival Liverpool on scouting trips. Because of this, the two appear to be considering possible transfers; the Spain international’s current deal has a €50 million (£43.6 million) release clause.

Le Normand, who is 26 years old and has a career-high market worth of €35 million, looks to be at the top of his game. He moved from Stade Brest to Real Sociedad back in 2016 as a youngster, and he has since made an impression in La Liga. (Transfermarkt profile of Robin Le Normand)

Le Normand participated in the current Champions League campaign and currently has 190 senior games for Sociedad in all competitions. For his current team, the centre back has contributed six assists and five goals. (Transfermarkt statistics for Robin Le Normand)

Le Normand has previously stated that Varane, the current defender for United, has served as a “inspiration” for him. He is also a huge fan of the Frenchman.

“As a young player who moved from the French second division to Spain to win everything with Real Madrid, Rapa Varane is an inspiration and an example to me,” the player said.

“He’s among the world’s best,” I had a couple games against him. After the games, he would converse with me in French. Brief conversations: he’s a decent man, a true competitor in the game yet amiable outside of it. It demonstrates that you can succeed if you work hard and have the right skill and physical attributes.

Le Normand may thus be interested in moving to Manchester to play alongside Varane at Old Trafford, and based on the appearance of the deal, it might be one to keep an eye on.
