Rio Ferdinand has expressed his preference for Manchester United to sign Napoli striker Victor Osimhen instead of Tottenham Hotspur’s Harry Kane. The Red Devils have already acquired Wout Weghorst on loan, but the 2022 World Cup star is expected to return to Burnley at the end of the season. Kane’s contract with Spurs is set to expire at the end of next season, and he is unlikely to move abroad as he is targeting Alan Shearer’s Premier League record of 260 goals. Osimhen has been praised for his performances with Napoli and is valued at more than 100 million euros. Ferdinand believes that the 24-year-old would be a better investment for Manchester United, as he has resale value. Chelsea and Paris Saint-Germain are also interested in signing Osimhen, which could lead to a bidding war for the 2015 FIFA U17 World Cup Golden Boot winner.
Former Manchester United defender Rio Ferdinand has backed his former side to sign Victor Osimhen instead of Harry Kane, Tottenham Hotspur’s talismanic forward. The Red Devils recently acquired Wout Weghorst on loan, but they could make a more permanent move in the close season by targeting the Nigerian international.

Osimhen has been causing a stir in Naples since he moved to Napoli from Lille in the summer; with the striker scoring eleven goals in 24 appearances for the Partenopei so far this season. The 24-year-old is rated at more than €100 million and is also a target for Chelsea and Paris Saint-Germain.

Ferdinand believes that Manchester United should take the opportunity to sign Osimhen as he has a sell-on value, unlike Harry Kane whose contract with Spurs runs out in 2022. The England international is unlikely to move abroad as his primary mission is to beat Alan Shearer’s Premier League scoring record of 260 goals.

The2002 World Cup winner, who spent 12 years at Old Trafford, has suggested that Manchester United splash the cash and acquire the Nigerian forward in the close season. He believes that Osimhen’s pace and physical style of play could make him the perfect foil for Marcus Rashford at the Theatre of Dreams.

Osimhen also has a wealth of experience at a young age, having represented Nigeria at two FIFA World Cups, while his talent was highlighted in 2015 when he was named Golden Boot winner of the 2015 FIFA U17 World Cup.

He will certainly be one to watch in the coming weeks and it will be interesting to see what happens with a player who many believe will be at the heart of the transfers market in the summer.
