Manchester United are keen on signing reinforcements in the summer transfer window with a new defender said to be on the agenda for coach Erik ten Hag.

According to Corriere dello Sport, Napoli’s Kim Min-jae is being heavily linked with a move to Old Trafford in the summer. The 26-year-old has a contract running with the Serie A giants until 2025 but his £42m release clause is set to be activated for 15 days during the summer transfer window.

The Premier League giants are keen on making a move before any other European side enters the race while Napoli are looking to secure the centre-back with a new contract that would increase his current clause to  £57 million.

The South Korean international has been in impressive form in Italy, being a regular with 31 appearances this season helping Napoli sit 15 points ahead of everyone as the leaders of Serie A.

Manchester United strongly consider signing Kim Min-jae

While the club brought Lisandro Martinez last summer, the Dutch boss is keen on bringing another centre-back to his squad. Both Victor Lindelof and former captain Harry Maguire have seen reduced minutes under Ten Hag with Martinez and Raphael Varane being preferred. Even left-back Luke Shaw has been made to play centre-back on 6 occasions this season.

With the lack of depth needed to compete against the top clubs, United’s Dutch boss wants to reinforce his defence for next season with the signing of Kim Min-Jae. It remains to be seen if any of the existing players will be transfer listed but with the potential arrival of new owners, it is likely that the Premier League giants will see a major overhaul in the summer.
