Arsenal have always been interested in Borussia Dortmund playmaker Julian Brandt, according to respected journalist Fabrizio Romano.
The London club are expected to bolster their attack during the summer transfer window, and it has recently been reported that they are interested in signing Brandt.
Romano has now confirmed in his CaughtOffside column that the German has always been tracked by Arsenal, but he is not aware of any new contacts for him.
“Arsenal has always been interested in Julian Brandt,” he said. I’m not aware of any new contacts at this time, and Borussia Dortmund has yet to make a decision on Brandt’s future. Many factors will influence new attacking signings; nothing has been decided on the summer plan yet.”
Quality
The 26-year-old has been a key figure in Dortmund’s final third. He has played across the attack behind the striker this season, scoring 9 goals and providing 5 assists.
His versatility could be a key factor in Arsenal’s interest, but a summer transfer could be contingent on how Dortmund handles his contract situation in the coming months.
His current contract is set to expire in the summer of 2024. If Dortmund cannot persuade him to sign a new contract by the summer, they may be forced to sell him.
Arsenal would be wise to sign Brandt as they look to strengthen their squad, but the German may have to compete for a spot in the starting lineup.
Gabriel Martinelli, Martin Odegaard, and Bukayo Saka are Arsenal’s regular starters on the left wing, number 10, and right wing, respectively, when fully fit.
Manager Mikel Arteta, on the other hand, has been willing to reward players, and we recently saw a league game in which Leandro Trossard started ahead of Martinelli.
If Brandt joined, he would be another formidable opponent. According to Transfermarkt, he is valued at £25 million, which is a fair price given that his contract expires in June 2024.
