According to Italian outlet Corriere dello Sport, Arsenal could be in line to acquire Lazio midfielder Sergej Milinkovic on a cut-price deal this summer. The Serbian international has been linked with a move to the Premier League for some time and it appears that the time has come for him to make the switch. The report adds that the midfielder is likely to consider a new challenge away from Lazio as he enters the last 12 months of his contract with the club. It is believed that Arsenal are interested in signing the player and could do so for a fee of £35 million.
The Gunners have had a great season in the Premier League and are in pole position to lift the title ahead of holders Manchester City. However, they need more quality and experience in the squad and Milinkovic-Savic would be a great addition. The Serbian is a box-to-box midfielder and is considered one of the best in Serie A. This season, he has scored 6 goals and provided 8 assists from 30 appearances. He has also put in a shift defensively, winning several ground and aerial challenges.
Newcastle United are also interested in the player, but Arsenal should have the upper hand as Milinkovic-Savic is said to be keen on joining them.
