According to a German journalist, Arsenal has joined Liverpool in their pursuit of a Bayern Munich player who could benefit from leaving the Allianz Arena this summer, but the move will only take place if Thomas Tuchel agrees.
Arsenal and Liverpool recently met, with the Gunners traveling to Anfield on Sunday. As Liverpool struggled to keep up, Mikel Arteta’s side went 2-0 up inside half an hour, thanks to goals from Gabriel Martinelli and Gabriel Jesus.
However, Granit Xhaka was involved in an altercation with Trent Alexander-Arnold, which enraged the home crowd. Liverpool were given extra motivation to score, which they did in the 42nd minute through Mo Salah.
The term “responsibility” refers to the act of determining whether or not a person is responsible for his or her own actions.
After dominating for the first 40 minutes, Arsenal will have known they deserved all three points. Instead, they have dropped two crucial points in the title race and are still in danger of being caught by Manchester City, who are six points behind but have a game in hand.
Arsenal and Liverpool appear to be competing for Ryan Gravenberch’s signature as well.
Last summer, Bayern Munich paid Ajax £21 million to sign the central midfielder. He has appeared in 26 different competitions, but only five of them have lasted 45 minutes or more.
With Gravenberch struggling for game time, there have been rumours he might swap Bayern for a Premier League club. Liverpool are understood to be monitoring his situation ahead a potential bid, with Jurgen Klopp eager to get started on his midfield rebuild.
Unfortunately for Klopp and Liverpool, Arsenal will be competing for Gravenberch. According to Sky Sport Germany reporter Florian Plettenberg, Arsenal is also monitoring Gravenberch’s situation.
Arsenal is not currently in negotiations with Bayern for his services, but they may do so soon. Arteta’s squad already includes midfielders Martin Odegaard, Granit Xhaka, Thomas Partey, and Jorginho, but the coach sees Gravenberch as a smart signing to prepare for next season’s Champions League matches.
Plettenberg does not reveal the 20-year-old’s thoughts on leaving Bayern. The journalist does mention that he might be tempted to play more frequently in England.
Plettenberg concludes his tweet by saying that the move is “all dependent on Tuchel.” The former Chelsea manager, who is now in charge of Bayern, will have the final say on whether Gravenberch can leave or whether he is needed in Bavaria.
Gravenberch would be an excellent addition to either Arsenal or Liverpool. While he has yet to make an impact at Bayern, it is worth noting that he was regarded as one of Europe’s best young midfielders during his time at Ajax.
Despite his young age, the Netherlands international played 42 games for Ajax last season, helping them win the Eredivisie, reach the Dutch Cup final, and advance to the Champions League round of 16.
Gravenberch’s potential cost is another factor to consider. Because Bayern only paid £21 million for him, he should not be too expensive for Arsenal or Liverpool to sign. Plus, he has not really been able to make himself more valuable during his struggles in Germany.
Gravenberch is valued at €30 million (£26.3 million) on transfermarkt. Perhaps Arsenal and Liverpool will start bidding and see if they can persuade Tuchel to sell.
