Liverpool’s transfer window has been dominated in recent weeks by their pursuit of Southampton’s Romeo Lavia, and a reliable Liverpool journalist believes the Reds will sign the youngster in the coming weeks.

Liverpool is known for closing deals quickly, and it is unusual for them to have even one bid rejected, let alone the three rejected by Southampton for Lavia. Many Liverpool fans are left wondering what is going on, and Liverpool journalist Neil Jones has stated in his latest exclusive column for CaughtOffside that he believes both clubs will find a way to get the transfer completed.

“Liverpool sources said earlier this summer that £50 million for Lavia was excessive, but that was before the departures of Fabinho and Jordan Henderson amplified their need for a midfielder,” Jones wrote. I get the impression that the club has scouted the market for potential No.6s/deep-lying midfielders and has been unimpressed, which is why they’ve returned to Lavia. He’s a risk, given his age, the number of games he’s played, and the fact that he’s a very different type of player than Fabinho, more of a builder than a destroyer. On the plus side, he clearly has a high ceiling, his wages are low, and he wants to move to Liverpool. My gut feeling is that a solution will be found, but it should have been found a long time ago.”

Jurgen Klopp needs a new number six, and with the season starting soon, the German manager will want the position filled as soon as possible.

If Liverpool pay £50 million, the player will be theirs, and the Reds’ midfield rebuild will be complete, having already signed Alexis MacAllister and Dominik Szoboszlai during the summer transfer window.
