Louis Saha has urged his former club Manchester United to sign one of France’s top players in the summer transfer window for €50 million (£44 million).

Erik ten Hag is looking to add to his attacking options ahead of the 2023-24 season, and the club has been linked with a number of players.

Saha, who played for United from 2004 to 2008, wants the Red Devils to sign fellow Frenchman Ousmane Dembele.

The 25-year-old winger has been at Barcelona for six years and has five goals and five assists in 18 La Liga games this season.

Dembele has scored 40 goals and made 41 assists in 178 appearances for Barcelona since joining from Borussia Dortmund in 2017.

Dembele has two La Liga titles and two Copa del Rey trophies to his name during his time at Barcelona, and he is likely to add more this season, with his team sitting 12 points clear of second-placed Real Madrid at the top of the league.

However, with his contract set to expire in the summer of 2024, many have speculated that Dembele may leave the club in the summer.

Saha, when quizzed if United should activate his €50m (£44m) release clause, told Betfred: ‘They should explore it as it would be a bargain.

‘I would want players who are a sure thing for Manchester United, and with Dembele, you’re going to get goals and assists, but for me, he hasn’t reached his full potential, and that’s frustrating to see.

‘I see him as a potentially wasted talent because he’s so good and there’s no other player like him. When you have Jadon Sancho and Ousmane competing against each other, that’s magic competition, oh my god. It would be a fantastic frontline.’
