The Premier League’s greatest center-back duo right now is Arsenal’s William Saliba and Gabriel Magalhaes, according to Steve Nicol.

According to the ESPN FC commentator, if the Arsenal team continues on their present trajectory, Mikel Arteta’s team might be a serious contender for the championship.

After 13 games, Arsenal has the best defensive record in the Premier League.

During Gabriel Magalhaes’ absence from the team, the Gunners conceded three goals in their first three league games of the season.

Ian Wright has said that at the beginning of the season, he was concerned about Gabriel. However, since he returned to play centre back with William Saliba in early September, Arsenal has only let up seven goals in ten games.

Even if their attacking performance hasn’t been at its peak, Arsenal is still showing to be a formidable opponent right now.

And following their 1-0 victory against Brentford on Saturday to take the lead in the standings, Steve Nicol had all praise for their center-back combination.

According to Nicol, Gabriel and Saliba are the Premier League’s top center-back duo.
If Gabriel and Saliba continue on their present trajectory, Nicol thinks Arsenal may win the title in May.

“Arsenal definitely has a chance if Saliba and Gabriel continue to play as they are for the remainder of the season,” he stated.

As far as goals go, it doesn’t appear like anyone is going to blast anyone away, therefore the winner may depend on whose defending is the tightest.

“And there is no denying that Saliba and Gabriel have been the Premier League’s best center-back duo.”

Over the past year, Saliba and Gabriel have developed a strong working relationship.

Saliba’s injury last season really hurt Arsenal’s performance, and at the end of the season, their relationship was dissolved.

In an attempt to bring an elusive title to the Emirates Stadium, Arteta will be trying to keep the two healthy and performing at their peak this time.
